Goooaaalllll!
Is your little Olympics-inspired tot kicking toys around the
house like he’s Gabriel Barbosa? Is your little princess practicing her fancy
footwork a la Carli Lloyd? Maybe now is a good time to start thinking about
joining a soccer program…
The Arlington/Mansfield area has lots of incredible soccer
programs to help your child learn the rules of the game and practic his or her
skills. Starting as young as age two, tots can start practicing basic soccer
skills and falling in love with the game.
Soccer Shots is program offered to the public at both
Cravens Park and Vandergriff Park. Kiddos who are 2 by 9/12 can enroll in an
8-week course where soccer and motor skills are taught. All equipment
is provided. Soccershots.org
Texas Premier Sports League (formerly Soccer Tots) instructs
kiddos as young as 18 months in soccer skills. Emphasis is placed on physical
activity, fitness and the game of soccer. Courses are 12 weeks long. Classes
are offered at the Apex Sports Center in Mansfield. Texaspremieryouthsports.com
Once your kiddo turns 3, he or she can join leagues where
Saturday games are typically played.
The City of Arlington offers a great soccer league for
little ones. Coaches are moms and dads who step up to the, er, field, so to
speak. Practices are typically once or twice per week at area parks and games
are Saturday morning at Harold Patterson Sports Complex or Dunlop Park. Naturallyfun.org
to register.
The City of Mansfield also offers a soccer program for
youth. Dynomites soccer can be played by kiddos who turn 3 on or before the
July 1 cutoff date. Practices are Saturdays for an hour and a half, and small
games are also played then. Older kids can also join a league through the city
and headed by volunteer coaches. Mansfieldsoccer.org
Grand Prairie offers a great program called Kidz Love Soccer that starts at age 2. You can start with a mommy/daddy and me class or enroll young ones in classes with other kids and coaches. Practices start 10/1 and are held at the Tony Shotwell Life Center in GP. kidzlovesoccer.com
If you are a member of the Y, this is a fabulous option as
well! Fall soccer is for kiddos who turn 3 by September 3. Practices start on
8/22 and coaches are volunteers. Another great way to introduce your kids to
this fun sport! Ymca-arlington.org
As kiddos get older and develop a true love of the sport,
there are many competitive leagues they can join throughout the area and
beyond. This article is by NO means a comprehensive list of places available to
play- it is meant merely as an informal jumping-off point for those interested
in getting their young ones enrolled in soccer!
